From 1945 to 1989 Hungary was governed from inside the Eastern Bloc, and the city still carries the record of it: Andrássy út 60, used in turn by the Arrow Cross and the state security service and now the House of Terror museum; the 1956 bullet marks left in place on several facades; and the statues removed after 1989 and gathered into Memento Park on the southern edge of the city. The walks and visits below are led by guides who work on the period.

If you are really interested in the communist period in Hungary, I highly recommend also touring the Museum of Terror.”
